Wildcat Experience

What Is It?

It is a treasure hunt (with a difference!).

Since 2010, 132 models of the elusive Scottish wildcat have been sited all around the village of Newtonmore in the Cairngorms National Park.  Each one is painted differently and they all have names, but most of all they have that famous bushy tail!

They’re in gardens, on roofs, up trees, and in windows.  All you have to do is track them down. Once you find one and using the map in the brochure, work out its grid reference and write down against the cat photographs.

Wildcat Experience Packs

Wildcat Experience Packs are available for £10 per pack from the Wildcat Centre, the village Post Office, Antler’s Café, Wild Flour Café and the Highlander Hotel.

Everyone gets a certificate from the Wildcat Centre showing how many cats they have found, but if you find more than 26 cats, you will get a silver certificate and a small prize. For 100 cats or more it’s a gold certificate, and if you find them all, it’s a platinum certificate, and our top prize!

CHILDREN LOVE IT – and so do the adults (sshhhh!)

The Wildcat Centre

From the Centre on Main Street, our volunteers greet visitors from all over the world and provide information on our own Wildcat Experience and Wildcat Trail. However, we also have a wealth of knowledge of our local area and we provide advice on making the most of our many attractions and outdoor activities.

The Centre has an ever growing range of souvenirs, books, maps and gifts just waiting for new owners so please, visit us and browse at your leisure.

Our opening hours vary according to the time of year so check this website and our Facebook pages.
