The Community Fund is a result of legacy left by Marielle Barclay who had been a Trustee and active supporter of the Newtonmore Woodland and Community Development Fund (NWCDT). She decided to leave part of the residue of her estate to The Trust. A significant amount of the funds will be used to improve the Wildcat trail in collaboration with Landowners and crofters along with planting more trees and we have set aside an initial budget. The Trust is using the fund to undertake projects and have recently installed information panels on the trail detailing some of the wild flowers in the area. Also, in collaboration with the Mains Home we have helped fund pathing improvements.
The Trustees are also keen to ensure that Marielle’s varied interests and love of Newtonmore and surrounding area can be reflected by others in the community. Marielle’s interests including walking; painting, with involvement with the Iona Gallery; a passion for gardening, wild flowers, trees and her long standing membership of the gardening club; and her top notch baking, jam and chutney. Marielle also had a passion for cycling, golf and music. This eclectic spread of interests allied with her love for the village and area helped shape the thoughts of the Trustees as to how Marielle’s legacy could best be used to benefit the village. The Trust has created the NWCDT Partnership Fund and earmarked £100k over 4 years to provide support of up to £5k for individual projects organised by other constituted groups in the village.
In line with Marielle’s interests the three themes of the fund are:
- to benefit the environment/ amenity of the village,
- to improve the quality of life of a group of people in the village,
- to allow events and activities involving local people to take place.
We expect that the majority of the applications will be relatively small so more people can be supported and we will be giving priority to those organisations that are actively fundraising in the village and/or seeking funds from outside.
The Trust has two funding rounds a year. The next closing date for applications will be 30/06/2026.

NCWDT COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP FUNDING APPLICATIONS 2025 – 2028

Please return this form and any other requested information by email, or by post to the Wildcat Centre, Main Street, Newtonmore, PH20 1DD, in a sealed envelope marked Community Partnership Funding.
General Conditions for all applicants.
- Only applications from a charity or constituted community group will be considered and you must provide any other supplementary information required in addition to completing the application form e.g. independently examined accounts. Only applications from within the current NVCC area will be considered unless an application from organisations outwith that area can be shown to deliver benefits within the NVCC area. If the activity benefits a wider group of people, and Newtonmore is subset of this, funding will only be given proportionate to the number of Newtonmore residents benefiting.
- There will be two application rounds each year and successful applicants can only apply for one grant in each calendar year. Closing dates will be published on the Trust’s website and on social media. The maximum grant to be applied for is £5,000.
- Grants will be awarded to:
to benefit the environment / amenity of the village, or
to improve the quality of life of a group of people in the village, or
to allow events and activities involving local people to take place. - Exclusions include but may not be limited to:
grants to advance religion or politics, or
grants that are proposed to be passed on to individuals, or
grants for travel. - Applicants must demonstrate support for the project within the community.
- Grants made will normally be for capital projects only and applicants must detail their plan to maintain assets in the future. Retrospective applications for projects already commenced will not be considered.
- Applicants must be able to identify and quantify benefits for the NVCC area.
- Proof of completion must be provided showing expenditure undertaken.
- Applications that demonstrate match funding will be particularly welcomed and only in exceptional circumstances will 100% funding be considered.
- NCWDT may request further information in addition to that provided in this application, including a meeting to answer questions that NCWDT may have.
- Application deadline will be June and December in each calendar year and applicants will be notified as soon as possible whether applications have been approved or refused.
- NCWDT would normally expect a copy of the applicant’s / organisation’s most recent independently examined accounts to be provided with the application. Should this not be possible, please provide a clear explanation as to why not.
- NCWDT may request a report on the project after completion describing benefits that have been delivered.
- The decision of NCWDT is final and cannot be appealed. Feedback will be given to unsuccessful applicants if requested.
